URU
Inspired by ancient African traditions and nature, URU is a Tanzanian jewelry brand that preserves artisanal craft and local resources.
URU is an extension of the expansive appreciation and passion for all that Tanzania has to offer. The love for Tanzania, its people and its natural beauty, and potential is at the core of URU.
URU was born as a labor of love and continues to espouse Tanzanian culture in its vibrant simplicity. The meaning of this ancient Swahili word is best summed up as "a powerful essence" that comes from a Diamond worn and cherished by African King and Queens. The age-old belief that these stones bring the wearer strength, prosperity, and respect.
URU is 100% handmade in Tanzania. The main gemstone used in URU pieces is Tanzanite. This unique gem of violet-blue hue is native to the land and cannot be found anywhere else. The jewel is left close to how they are located, highlighting the bracelet's unique beauty made from quality hand-knotted thread or natural leather.
URU's meticulously handcrafted bold bracelets are all uniquely cast in gold or silver with rough semi-precious stones like Tanzanite, rubies, spinel, and tsavorite, which are used as the main focal point.
Wear one or collect many - these ethically sourced bracelets look great mixed and matched together or worn alone.
I spend a lot of time traveling around Africa to get inspiration for unique handcraft. I do an expedition to a new place in East Africa to look for inspiration about once a year. These expeditions have brought me to the most amazing places and tribes. Africa is full of un-explored richness. I am always searching for new places to visit.
URU bracelets have gained international attention celebrities; Beyonce, Orlando Blue and Kim Kardashian and their crew preferring their favorite.
